Pedestrians are reminded to be alert and cautious around Melbourne’s tram network after a 35 per cent spike in near misses between people and trams around the city, compared with last year.Public Transport Victoria has launched its Look Both Ways campaign to highlight the need for pedestrians to ensure they keep themselves safe when walking near trams, crossing tracks and waiting at stops.Footage has been released showing a number of near-miss incidents, often involving pedestrians being distracted by their phones and failing to check for oncoming trams. A total of 225 near-misses have been recorded this year, as well as 45 incidents in which a pedestrian was struck.Trams weigh up to 62 tonnes and have a minimum stopping distance of 13 metres when travelling at 30km/h, making it difficult for our drivers to stop a tram to avoid a collision. Sudden stopping can also cause tram passengers to lose balance and fall, potentially causing serious injuries.Pedestrians are reminded to:>Put devices away and avoid other distractions when crossing>Only use marked crossings and intersections when walking over tracks>Look both ways before crossing, and>Don’t assume it’s safe to cross just because a tram has passed. There could be another tram travelling in the opposite direction or behind.Department of Transport and PlanningGabrielle Williams MPKeolis Downer #ThinkTram #Safety #Trams

Amtrak Safety Tip while traveling:Unlike at airports, there is usually no security check before boarding the train. This can be disconcerting for some, since it means there is no one reviewing what travelers bring aboard. While Amtrak does prohibit certain items in carry-on bags aboard its trains, there’s generally no way to verify that passengers aren’t bringing them on the train. This means that your best chance of safety is being aware of your surroundings and reaching out to train staff if you notice something that feels off or worrying.#situationalawareness #traintravel #travelsafety

Transurban issues a crucial reminder to heavy vehicle operators in Australia to avoid tunnels when transporting dangerous goods. The road toll network manager highlights the increased instances of vehicles carrying dangerous goods attempting to travel through WestConnex tunnels, particularly on the new Sydney Airport connection via Qantas Drive to WestConnex M8 and M4.Despite 24/7 monitoring and available customer assistance, placarded vehicles are strictly prohibited in tunnels, including WestConnex, and roads connecting to them, such as the new Sydney Gateway.Heavy vehicle operators are urged to take an alternative route if transporting any dangerous goods like petrol or paint-tin contents. #SafetyFirst #Transportation #AustraliaSafety. Better Queue Tip #4: Large queue plans, like for a sprawling airport, demand a more comprehensive and detailed layout. Develop operational strategies for the queue during both peak and slow times, like “short cuts” allowing for quick line adjustments.#crowdcontrol #queue #queuemanagement #peopleguidance #airport
