The Madigan Main Outpatient Pharmacy is currently experiencing network outages affecting multiple MTFs that are unfortunately impacting pharmacy services today here at Madigan as well. -Virtual activation via text/SMS is temporarily unavailable. The ScriptCenter is also unable to dispense some prescriptions as a result of network issues, which prevented some patients from being able to pick up medications today.-At this time, virtual prescription activation services are still available in the MHS Genesis Patient Portal. Patients can still pick up medications and contact the pharmacy via the pharmacy Call Center at 253-968-2586.-We would like to ask our patients with prescription activation needs to request activation of medication through the MHS Genesis Patient Portal and report to the pharmacy once your medications are ready for pick-up to avoid delays during your pharmacy visit. For more information on the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal, please visit https://lnkd.in/g65V2PD7We apologize to any of our patients who have experienced difficulty today as a result of the network outages. We are working diligently to keep your pharmacy experience from being affected as this issue is being resolved. Thank you for your patience. #CareWithCompassion

An Unlevel Playing Field for Patients and DoctorsBy Paul Pender, MD Melanie Evans writes in the WSJ[1]about the site of service differential between independent doctors’ offices and those doctor practices acquired by hospitals. For the same service, there is an additional charge, a facility fee, imposed when the practice is owned by the hospital. While such fees were historically used to offset overhead expense for inpatient care of hospitals, the facility fees are now applied by hospitals in outpatient settings for facilities that they own.The added revenue to hospitals from facility fees has led to the widespread acquisition of physician practices by hospitals.A majority of primary care physicians now work for hospitals as employees, and their offices serve as a facility for the acquiring organization. What this means is that hospitals are paid more for the same outpatient service compared to an independent medical practice. The differential amounts to billions of dollars in “overcharges” every year.Congress has made noises in the past about changing the reimbursement formula for outpatient site of service, but no significant reform has been adopted. “Lawmakers and Congress have proposed limiting fees covered by Medicare, which advisers to the federal insurer have unanimously recommended. Under a bill passed by the House in December, Medicare would no longer pay hospital facility fees for chemotherapy and other drugs infused by doctors in clinics off a hospital campus, saving about $3.7 billion over 10 years.”As expected, the hospital lobby continues to push for facility fees for outpatient services.“The American Hospital Association opposes limiting the fees, saying restrictions would cut revenue to hospitals already squeezed financially byhigh labor costs and inflation.”However, hospitals are already paid for “diagnostic related groups” by the federal government by a formula that accounts for inflation. When the only difference in cost for a service performed in the doctor’s office is the result of who owns the practice, patients object, and well they should.A father who was charged a $400 facility fee, in addition to the surgeon’s professional fee, from an orthopedic office owned by a hospital for casting his son’s broken arm has learned his lesson. “Every appointment I make, the first question I ask is do you charge facility fees?” [1]https://lnkd.in/d-TXTYMp

ACP introduced ACPlus® Respiratory Assessment (ARA) to the speech therapy team at a skilled nursing facility’s outpatient rehabilitation program, which had already implemented OmniFlow®. Their primary goal in implementing ARA was maintaining or improving patient Forced Expiratory Volume (FEV1). They found that ARA paired with OmniFlow improved patient endurance levels during exercises, reporting that 44.44% of patients assessed with ARA improved their FVC and FEV1. Dive into our study to see how inpatient, outpatient, and contract rehab providers have found success with ARA: https://loom.ly/mYYxRKs#RespiratoryTherapy #SNF #SkilledNursing

As with a #medspa, #weightloss clinics that provide medical treatment in Texas must be owned by a licensed physician, as laid out by Texas’ Corporate Practice of Medicine prohibition and enforced by the Texas Medical Board and the civil courts. That said, nurses, physician assistants, and non-medical investors may still participate in the day-to-day operation of a weight-loss clinic; however, the organization must be carefully structured.Healthcare attorney Keith Lefkowitz explains.#wegovy #ozempic #healthlaw #medicallaw
