20 Mickey's Ultimate Challenge Is a Puzzle Game
The Game Is Aimed At Younger Players
With a similar setup to the other Mickey games, players discover that something is wrong with the castle in Beanswick after hearing a rumbling sound that isn't associated with anything they can see. Then it's off to the castle to encounter a series of puzzles that they have to solve in order to get beans. Players can choose to play as Mickey or Minnie.

The gameplay may not be difficult or exciting, but then the game is aimed toward a younger audience. As an introduction to gaming, young players walk, jump, and go through doors in their quest to solve the puzzles. Many of the games are memory-based (like Missing Match-ups) but there are also problem-solving, sorting, and guessing puzzles. This game is perfect for young and upcoming gamers, but it makes the bottom of the list because there are definitely other more memorable Disney games made for the Genesis.
19 Bonkers Capitalized On the Cartoon
It Features The Crazy Adventures Of Bobcat
The cartoon Bonkers follows the exploits of Bonkers D. Bobcat who leaves a failed career in show business to work for the Los Angeles Police Department. The show only aired from February 1993 to February 1994, but it spawned a Genesis game later that year. The setup is that Bonkers is competing in an Officer of the Month competition that he hopes to win to impress his partner Lucky Piquel.

The competition is based on apprehending four criminals (all of whom appear in the series) by completing four mini-games. These mini-games involve such tasks as throwing donuts to stop a museum heist, building a wall while avoiding trash, and finding Fall-Apart Rabbit so he can deactivate a car bomb. The action is fun and silly, just like the cartoon, and an enjoyable space-out-and-play game, putting it at 20 on the list.
18 Fantasia Was Loosely Based On The Film
Its Intriguing Premise And Great Graphics Are Still Appealing
Loosely based on the Disney film of the same name, Fantasia is based on the idea that certain compositions have missing notes that are represented by the four elements. For example, The Sorcorer's Apprentice has a missing note that is represented by water. The Rite of Spring is represented by earth, Russian Dance by air, and Night on Bald Mountain by fire.

There are many other pieces and Mickey must find the missing notes to all of them, taking a kind of tour of the most prominent music in Fantasia. The game had a great premise and was praised for its graphics, but reviewers found its gameplay frustrating. Apparently, Disney tried to find the copies of the game and destroy them after its release. But the game can still be found online.
17 TaleSpin Is Based On the Jungle Book Spin-Off Cartoon
It Follows the Adventures Of Balloo And Kit Cloudkicker
TaleSpin was another cartoon that started airing in 1990, continuing its 65-episode first season in 1991. 16 Ariel: The Little Mermaid Made For a Successful Game
It Features the Main Character Of Ariel
With the advent of platforms like Sega Genesis, it didn't take long for Disney to realize that it had a gold mine in movie adaptations on its hands. Thus, this area of 16-bit gaming ushered in several games based on films, such as Little Mermaid, a successful animation feature that had just been released in 1989. Coming out in 1992, Ariel: The Little Mermaid focuses on the title character's adventures against Ursula the Sea Witch.
Ursula kidnaps either Ariel or Trton, depending on who you play, and it is up to the one who isn't taken to find the other and subvert Ursula's attempts to take over the Atlantlantica. Ariel was released the same year as another Sega game that became a kind of cult classic called, Ecco the Dolphin. Thanks to being underwater, the player can maneuver in 8 directions through levels that involve coral reefs, a pirate ship, Atlantis, and sea caves.

15 Beauty And The Beast: Belle's Quest Follows the Movie
It Gives Players the Quest Of Breaking the Spell
Beauty and the Beast was a huge success when it came out in 1991. The movie is still highly rated and loved, and even at the time, it was considered a kind of renaissance for Disney's feature films and ushered in a run of other successful releases. Released in 1993, Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Quest puts players in the action of the film (to a degree).
Unlike Ariel: The Little Mermaid, Belle's Quest actually relates somewhat to the plot of the film. The players are challenged with guiding Belle to the castle to break the spell that the Beast is under. In her way are mini-games and puzzles that she must solve in the village, the forest, and other settings. While doing this, enemies such as rats and bats are after her. This game is a fun mix of strategy and action, landing it the number 15 spot on the list.

Gamers Play As Mickey And Must Find Minnie

This sidescroller was released in 1990 and again in 2013, no doubt to catch the nostalgia market. But who can blame them? This game features Disney's heroic mouse on a quest to find Minnie, who has been kidnapped by an evil witch named Mizrabel. More than just a pun, this witch commands a castle full of monsters that stand between you and Minnie.
Along the way, Mickey gets tips from elderly people before he enters the Castle of Illusion. In the castle are doors that lead to levels that don't belong in rooms, such as a forest that requires lots of jumping and avoiding mushrooms (ala Mario). Mickey swings over chasms and has to go through all the levels in order to find Minnie and rescue her from the witch.

Both Mickey and Minnie have identical gameplay in this co-op game.
With Mickey and Minnie both practically involved in the game, they are given similar functions. They can use different costumes to access things like grappling hooks and other devices. Depending on the suit, they can suck up enemies or shoot them with a cork gun. Players can even upgrade some of the suits at a store.

Instead of following the trend of some Disney games launching alongside their movies, Virgin Interactive's Pinocchio for the Sega Genesis, released in 1996, went in a different direction. Even though it was released decades after the beloved 1940 film, Pinocchio sticks faithfully to the movie's storyline. Players will encounter all their favorite characters, including Jiminy Cricket, Honest John, Stromboli, and the terrifying Monstro the Whale.
From the expressive animation to the lush backgrounds, Virgin pushed the 16-bit console to its limits, creating a rendition of Pinocchio's world that feels like stepping into the movie itself. Though the gameplay is more relaxed, this tried and true platformer secured Pinocchio's place as an underrated gem in the Disney Genesis library, making it to number 10 on the list.

2 Pocahontas Brings A More Thoughtful Approach To Platforming
The Strategic Approach Captures The Spirit Of the Film
Arriving a year after the hit film's release, Disney Interactive's Pocahontas for the Sega Genesis in 1996 offered a unique twist on the typical Disney tie-in game. Developed by Funcom (who would later go on to create The Secret World), Pocahontas isn't a straight-up action platformer. Instead, it leans toward cinematic exploration, with players controlling both Pocahontas and her raccoon companion Meeko.

As the game progresses, Pocahontas gains various physical powers (like stealth, sprinting, and swimming) by helping animals in trouble by solving puzzles. These new powers, coupled with the ability to switch between characters, give Pocahontas a slower-paced adventure vibe that is unlike any other game on the system. While some might have missed the fast-paced action of other Disney games, Pocahontas on the Genesis offers a beautiful and charming adventure that uniquely captures the spirit of the film.
